Over het evenement

History, culture, and the present-day situation of Muslims in Russia Did you know that since the seventh century, Muslims have resided in some regions of modern-day Russia?  The largest Muslim population in Europe today is believed to be in Russia, where there are between 15 and 20 million Muslims inhabiting many well-known regions, such as Tatarstan, Dagestan, and Chechnya, which are known for their cultural heritage and are the home of prominent figures in our world today! ❄️ On Friday, December 9th, 2022 between 17:30–19:30 CET at Roeterseilandcampus (REC A2.07), Dr. Alfrid Bustanov will be presenting an academic lecture about the history, culture, and present-day situation of Muslims in Russia 📅 Dr. Alfrid Bustanov is an assistant professor of European Studies at the University of Amsterdam and principal investigator of an ERC project MIND: 'The Muslim Individual in Imperial and Soviet Russia' which can be found online at mind-archives.com. He has published countless pieces on the past and present state of Islam in the post-Soviet realm, and as an expert on Muslims and Islam in Russia, he will be guiding our adventure into the deep history of those exciting topics. An opportunity for us to learn about our brothers and sisters living in that part of the world, and how they go on about their daily endeavours! 🥳
